Safeguarding Training

Our Safeguarding experts Mandy Parry and Lucy Wyatt  offer a wide selection of training courses;

Mandy Parry offers preplanned training courses set out in this Booklet which can be booked through the DS Portal.  In addition, she delivers bespoke training.  It is important to note that if Mandy is delivering training for your organisation and an issue arises out of a discussion on the day, she is able to adapt the planned training at that time to focus on your needs during that session, rather than sticking to the training plan agenda so that you can make the most of her expert advice focus on what is most important to you. Mandy Parry

Non-Managerial Supervision for Safeguarding Leads

Mandy worked in London for many years as an actress and political campaigner for women’s rights then moved to Bristol to teach.  She left teaching to work for a number of different training organisations, including a private NLP training company, and then the Prince’s Trust Volunteers.

The latter involved leading teams of mainly disaffected young people in outdoor pursuits and community projects and gave her a keen interest in teambuilding. In April 2001, she began working for Bristol City Council (BCC), when she was appointed as training manager for the newly established Knowle West Sure Start. She gained considerable experience of child protection case work in a disadvantaged community, as well as group facilitation, partnership working and participative working with service users.  She went on to work as the training coordinator for the multi-agency sexual health training programme, based within the sexual health team at NHS Bristol Public Health.

She holds a degree in the Dramatics Arts from Leeds University, a post graduate teaching certificate in Social Studies at the Institute of Education in London, a diploma in MSc Women’s Studies at Bristol

University and more recently Mandy an accredited advanced diploma from the Institute of Learning and Management in Professional Coaching.

Lucy Wyatt (accredited trainer) is currently offering training on Safer Recruitment which can be booked through the DS Portal

“I can thoroughly recommend the Safer Recruitment training delivered by Lucy Wyatt as an alternative to on-line versions. Being able to share best practice and discuss elements of the course with other delegates helps to embed the fundamental purpose of this important training ensuring that anyone involved in recruiting staff or volunteers to work with children, is empowered to do so safely.”

Lucy Wyatt Profile

Lucy Wyatt

Science and PE Health and Safety Advice, Safer Recruitment, CDM Awareness, Accident Investigation and Reporting and Risk Assessments for schools and charity sector.

Lucy has been working as a primary school teacher for over 30 years, including spending 10 years as a Headteacher in two schools.  As a Head, she was involved in a number of projects involving school reorganisation, restructuring and building where her top priority was always to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of all those associated with the school.  Her second headship involved leading on the amalgamation of two schools and development of Bristol’s first co-located Specialist Children’s Centre in Lawrence Weston.

Here after working through a year-long construction project on site, she was ultimately responsible for a campus containing a large primary school with Specialist Resource Base, a Children’s’ Centre (managed by the Local Authority) and health facilities managed by the North Bristol Trust including midwifery, health visitors, community paediatricians, CAMHS etc.  She worked on this project with colleagues from Skanska, the National Health Service and Early Years Team during the planning and construction phase and afterwards as they established the provision of services. This was the turning point that led Lucy to become a Health and Safety trainer and consultant.

Since leaving headship and obtaining a NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Lucy has combined her career in teaching with her roles a as a Risk Management and Assurance Advisor at Delegated Services and Safeguarding and Health and Safety Advisor for a key children’s charity in Bristol.  She is also a governor in a large city primary school.

Lucy uses her teaching skills to write and deliver training that is specifically tailored to the needs of schools and community sector organisations.  The courses currently on offer include Safer Recruitment (for which she is an Accredited Trainer), CDM awareness, Accident Investigation and Reporting and Risk Assessment training.
